Meet the Postpartum Aesthetics Team

The Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital is led by four consultants working inside a tertiary general hospital. Tongchun Mao, MD, is responsible for the medical review of this site, because planning in the postpartum year turns on when to wait. Ke He, MD, assesses skin, pigment and scarring and carries out the procedural treatment that is reasonable once feeding and weight have settled; Yongbo Jia, MD, manages the medical side of pigment and pregnancy-related skin change; and Shaoliang Wang, MD, provides the surgical view and the hospital-level backstop when a problem needs more than a device.

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Staged planning in the first year after birth · abdominal wall and pelvic floor assessment · when to wait

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

His assessment in the postpartum year begins with what the body is still doing rather than with what could be done. He asks how you are feeding, whether weight is still moving, whether cycles have returned, and whether there are symptoms such as leaking, heaviness or pain, because those answers decide the order of everything else. Where the abdominal wall is separated he assesses it as a functional finding before discussing how the abdomen looks, and where a request is for a body operation in a year when weight has not settled, he explains what a result could and could not be judged against before discussing whether to proceed at all.

Clinical focus

  • Staged assessment in the first year after birth, ordered by what is still changing
  • Separating a functional abdominal wall finding from an appearance concern
  • Timing a plan around feeding, sleep and the household rather than a calendar
  • Recognising pelvic floor symptoms and referring them before any cosmetic plan
  • Saying no to body operations while weight and cycles are still unsettled

Waiting is a plan, not a delay

A parent who leaves an assessment in this year with no treatment has not had an unsuccessful consultation. If weight is still moving, feeding is ongoing and nothing is causing symptoms, the plan that protects your options is the one that does nothing yet and reviews it later.

An appointment is not an obligation

In this year an assessment can legitimately end with no treatment at all. We will say what the body is still changing, what should be assessed, and what is better left until weight, cycles and feeding have settled.
